History of
Rummer Run Boxers, continued:
Our Kennel
name comes from the word Rummer which is a large drinking
cup or glass - in short, a victory chalice from which to drink at a
time of celebration. We liked the alliteration of Rummer Run
and our logo by Armando Miro combines the chalice and a head study of
our first homebred champion - Ch
Rummer Run's Rowdy II, one of our most
dearly beloved dogs of all time.
If we were to offer any advice to a beginner, it would be to start out
with the very best bitch you can find. Look at her
objectively. Try not to become kennel blind. Learn,
read, observe. Be very patient, and prepare to suffer some
heart breaking as well as some exhilarating experiences along the way.
Do not try to make money. If you do things totally
ethically, you will refund money if a dog doesn't work out, you will
work with people who may disappoint you, but always the best interests
of your dogs must be served. Only a few are great ones, many
more may finish, but there will be others with health problems or who
are
not very attractive. If you have been responsible for
bringing
a litter into the world, you are obligated to stand behind each puppy,
and some will have problems. If you choose to breed Boxers,
and show them, you will become a custodian of the very human-oriented,
loving, loyal, but at times challenging breed. You are
responsible for each puppy you bring into the world.
If you are unwilling or unable to take on this responsibility, please
follow another road. Boxers are a lifetime commitment.
